TY - JOUR T1 - „wes Geistes Art sein Gegner ist‟: Der Übersetzer Alexander Eliasberg im Ersten Weltkrieg (Aus seiner Korrespondenz mit Igor’ Grabar’) PY - 2014 N2 - „the enemy's mentality‟: The translator Alexander Eliasberg in the World War I (From his correspondence with Igor’ Grabar’). – Alexander Eliasberg (1878–1924), born in Minsk, studied in Moscow and lived from 1906 in Munich where he started his career as one of the most prolific translators from Russian into German. This period of great enthusiasm for Russian literature, that achieved its first climax with the outbreak of World War I, witnessed also nationalistic war propaganda written by the same German and Austrian writers who before and and later on were passionate admirers of Russian literature. In 1915, Eliasberg brought out the volume Russian Art, designed and advertised as a „study of Russian national character‟. This article investigates the sources of Eliasberg's book, mainly his private correspondence with the prominent Russian painter and art historian Igor Grabar (1871–1960), and discusses the book's reception in war time JF - Wiener Slavistisches Jahrbuch.
